Sharon McGowan Breast Health Fund – a 501(c)(3) Charity
The Sharon McGowan Breast Health Fund (SMBHF) was established through the Arlington County Medical Society Foundation (ACMSF) and the McGowan Family in 1997 in memory of Sharon McGowan, an Arlington resident, who courageously fought breast cancer while raising seven children. The fund enables uninsured women and men in Arlington and Falls Church to access free mammograms, sonograms, biopsies, medical devices and medications for fighting breast cancer.
Thanks to generous contributions, the fund has provided for over 1,500 mammograms, 200 comprehensive sonograms, and over 140 biopsies.
In 2008, The Sharon McGowan Breast Health Fund began collaborating with the Nurse Managed Health Center at Marymount University in order to improve prevention and treatment of breast cancer in our community’s vulnerable populations.
A Special Thank You to Virginia Hospital Center and their anesthesiologists, oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, and radiologists for donating their time and services to this cause!
The SMBHF and the Arlington County Medical Society Foundation work hard to raise necessary funds that will benefit uninsured women and men in the Arlington and surrounding communities.
Virginia Hospital Center and their Anesthesiologists, Oncologists, Pathologists, Surgeons, and Radiologists are at the service providing the care these patients need. It is our hope that these efforts will help to eradicate many cases of breast cancer by providing means for early detection.
